Monthly Awards-4Teens Honoree #1|March 21st, 2021| By: Reema Alahamdi

In a world saturated with global issues, our volunteers have provin, time and time again, their commitment to embodying the change that they would like to see in the world. Proving that the power to make a difference lies in the ambitions of the youth, the people of our future.

Somya Valecha’s consistent commitment and involvement in a plethora of unique volunteering experiences has led to her achievement of the title “Volunteer of the month”for March 2021.

Just a sophomore in high school, Somya has embodied the mission of our organization by finding meaning in projects that give back to the local and international communities. Her passion for humanitarian experiences does not go unnoticed as her efforts pave the path for future generations. Her dedication to the environment and education catalyse her passion to do her part and making a difference.

In one word what does volunteering mean to you?

Fulfilling. Volunteering gives me a sense of purpose and makes me feel accomplished through helping others and doing my part to make an impact on the world.

What is one favorite project that you were involved in at Am4teens?

Creating presentations and working with Feed the Children made me feel like I was truly making an impact on the kids lives and I loved that my work was being distributed to kids in need all over the world.

What inspired you to volunteer? And what advice would you give to your younger self that is just beginning their volunteer journey?

I believe that it is the most productive way for me to use my time because all the experiences have an impact on the world and gain learning experience while doing so. I would tell my younger volunteer self to be confident and just go for it, and not to doubt myself on my abilities and put all my effort into things to get the outcome that I want.

What is something that you have learned through your volunteering experience?

I have learned how to manage my time and to be more confident in my abilities especially when giving back to the community. It gave me an outlet, without judgement that lets me improve.

When you are not busy with school or volunteering, what do you do for fun?

I love playing tennis and orchestra. I have been balancing my time volunteering and taking part in both activities. Am4Teens has allowed me to choose the experiences that fit my schedule which allows me to maintain a balance between school and volunteering.

What volunteering experiences do you see yourself taking part of in the future?

I enjoyed all projects like the water filtration project that allows me to learn and help others. My big passion that I want to dive deeper into are humanitarian based projects and education. I would like to take part in projects like Love 146, learning more about human trafficking. I am privileged and I would like to help others that are not as privileged as me.

We would like to extend our immense gratitude to Somya Valecha, and all of our volunteers whose contributions encourage the achievement of the organization's central goals, proving that teens can make a difference.
